Sustainability at the Heart of Everything We Do
A Message from our Chief Executive Mr. Tendai Madziwanyika.
“Sustainability is not just a responsibility, it is a strategic enabler that positions RTG to lead in responsible tourism, drive innovation, and deliver lasting impact for society, the environment, and our business.”
OUR SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
RTG’s sustainability approach underpins its long-term resilience by integrating environmental stewardship, social responsibility and sound governance into strategic planning and daily operations. Oversight to ensure accountability, ethical conduct and transparent reporting is done through various ways which include quarterly Board reporting, tracking and audits.
Our sustainability approach and strategy is guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, RTG embeds sustainability in its business operations/processes proactively managing regulatory, environmental and operational risks. The strategy supports renewable energy adoption, water and waste reduction, employee empowerment and community upliftment, while reducing the Group’s carbon footprint and strengthening stakeholder trust.

Energy Conservation
Rainbow Tourism Group recognises clean energy as a strategic pillar in shaping the future of sustainable hospitality. As part of its broader transition to solar energy, a 300kVA grid-tied solar system was installed at Kadoma Hotel & Conference Centre, now generating a substantial portion of the property’s electricity requirements and demonstrating RTG’s commitment to renewable energy. The system also exports excess power to the national grid, positively contributing to the town’s energy supply. Group-wide, RTG continues to enhance energy efficiency through LED lighting, smart HVAC systems, and optimised off-peak scheduling of high-demand equipment — measures that reduce emissions while improving operational cost efficiency. The Group is working on rolling out solar systems across the group.

Water Conservation
Rainbow Tourism Group is actively taking steps to reduce water usage across its properties. Sensor taps and dual-flush toilets help reduce consumption by up to 30% while keeping operational costs in check. The Group also introduced the Green Stays Linen Reuse Programme to further minimise water, energy, and chemical use, encouraging sustainable habits among guests.

Waste Management
Rainbow Tourism Group has transitioned to bulk guest amenities to reduce single-use plastics (mini-shower gel, shampoo and lotions) and is implementing comprehensive waste separation, focusing on segregation at source, recycling, and composting organic matter. The Group continues to monitor and minimise total waste generation with the goal of achieving a fully circular waste management model. Collectively, these initiatives reduce environmental impact and reinforce RTG’s commitment to sustainable, responsible hospitality operations.

Biodiversity Conservation
Tree Planting
RTG plants trees in Kadoma, advancing its commitment to sustainability.
Guided by a commitment to sustainability, the Group is actively supporting reforestation across its communities, through ‘A Tree for Every Room’ campaign, which has resulted in the planting nationwide. This programme supports carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration while advancing RTG’s 2027 target of achieving net-zero Scope 1 emissions.
In addition, the Group introduced the RTG Agro Concept, integrating sustainable agriculture into its operations to reduce its carbon footprint by growing produce at the point of operation and consumption. Rainbow Tourism Group’s on-site vegetable production under the RTG Agro initiative helps reduce carbon emissions across the value chain. By growing produce at the point of consumption, the Group significantly cuts transportation-related fuel use and eliminates much of the refrigeration and packaging associated with external suppliers. Shorter supply chains also reduce food spoilage, lowering methane emissions linked to organic waste. In addition, cultivation supports soil carbon sequestration through natural photosynthesis and improved soil health. Collectively, this approach lowers Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions while strengthening climate resilience and advancing responsible, low-carbon hospitality operations aligned with global sustainability goals.
